Wai Word – Midden Rahurahu – Poorhara
Here’s your chance to meet Midden Rahurahu (Ngāti Rahurahu, Ngāti Tahu–Ngāti Whaoa), prizewinning author of Poorhara. Midden will read from the book, and engage in conversation with the audience about her prizewinning novel.
A road trip novel of epic proportions, Poorhara is a poignant, expansive and darkly funny novel which won the 2025 Hubert Church Prize for Fiction at the Ockham New Zealand Book Awards.
Raised by tāngata turi (deaf Māori), Midden Rahurahu, formerly Michelle Rahurahu, also co-edited Te Rito o te Harakeke, an anthology of Māori voices for Ihumātao.
